Amazing Amphipods

The local estuary research center puts on a class once a month for 3-5 year olds.  This was the first one we made it to and I'm so glad we went.  Since it was pouring rain today the class was held inside.  They started by showing a print out of an amphipod and then put some live ones under a microscope.  Next the kids went fishing for amphipods.  The class provided a printout of a fish, magnets, string, and tape.  Then the kids went around looking for paper cutouts of amphipods with paperclips on them and caught them with their fish.  Next the teacher fed some amphipods to a tank of fish.  All in all, it was a successful learning day at the estuary.
